Okay, okay -- I didn't make this list; the braniacs at Road Snacks came up with the worst places to live in Minnesota. Love it or hate it (at least according to them) they used real live science. BTW, if you're from Cambridge do not read this. Here's the list and the methods they used to come up with it.

Of course, many of the cities on this list would rank highly if they were in other states. But nonetheless, according to Road Snacks' science, these cities are the worst places you could possibly live if you make Minnesota your home.

After analyzing 148 of the state’s most populous cities (over 5,000 people), they came up with this list as the 10 worst places to live in Minnesota:

  1. Cambridge
  2. Brainerd
  3. Grand Rapids
  4. Cloquet
  5. International Falls
  6. Bemidji
  7. Virginia
  8. Isanti
  9. North Branch
  10. Waite Park

It's funny -- I personally love the the top-4 and #10. Not that I hate the rest; I just haven't spent enough time there to have an opinion. I got your back Cambridge, Brainerd, Rapids, and Cloquet. (I mean how can the home of Gordy's be on this list?)

This is the criteria they used to hash it all out:

  • Population Density (The lower the worse)
  • Highest Unemployment Rates
  • Adjusted Median Income (Median income adjusted for the cost of living)
  • High Housing Vacancy Rate
  • Education (Low expenditures per student and high Student Teacher Ratio)
  • High Crime

More results:

Little Falls (#10), Monticello (#20), Elk River (#21), Big Lake (#23), St. Cloud (#35), Alexandria (#39), Sauk Rapids (#59), Sartell (#77), St. Michael (#98), St. Joe (#99), Rogers (#138).

Between you and me this list is a relative collection of BS. I'd stack just about any Minnesota town against most places in the country -- and I'd pick the MN locations. (Except maybe Cancun in February -- but that's not technically part of Minnesota is it?)
