The Weekender is featuring some St. Patrick's Day celebrations of dancing and music. There are two Irish concerts this weekend. Steel Magnolias is also is hitting the stage, and you can catch a ballet that's in town for only one night. If you are looking for some visual arts to take in, Kiehle Gallery has some artwork for you to check out.

    Steel Magnolias

    Pioneer Place Theatre Company is bringing the 1989 film Steel Magnolias to life. This play follows six women that come together to share stories and gossip in a small Louisiana town at Truvy’s local beauty salon. Once tragedy strikes, these women come together, and the relationships they forge at the salon help get them through the hard times. Steel Magnolias stars Amelia Lisi, Patty Soltis, Karen Wiese-Thompson, Sarah Nargang, Jean Shore, and Solveig Anderson. Director Raine Hokan says  the play celebrates the women, and really focuses on the strength of the women portrayed in the play. Steel Magnolias hits the stage this weekend, and runs through March 29th.

    The New Normal: Gregory Fitz

    Kiehle Gallery - SCSU - St. Cloud

    The artwork of Gregory Fitz is being displayed at Kiehle Gallery on the campus of St. Cloud State University. The exhibit was organized by Alexa Horochowski and Shana Kaplow. Called The New Normal is a solo exhibition by Fitz. His work, which consists of sculptures and paintings, has been displayed across Minnesota, and will be on display at Kiehle Gallery until March 31st.

    James Sewell: Guy Noir The Ballet

    With the help of Garrison Keillor, James Sewell was able to bring Guy Noir: The Ballet to life. This ballet brings the action of Keillor's "Guy Noir, Private Eye" segment of "A Prairie Home Companion" to the stage. The ballet originally premiered at the State Theatre in Minneapolis, and eventually made its way out to New York City. It features songs by  Rich Dworsky and The Guy's All-Star Shoe Band.     Cherish the Ladies

    Stephen B. Humphrey Theater - Saint John's University - Collegeville

    Cherish the Ladies has been playing  traditional Irish music for thirty years. The group members are Joanie Madden, Mary Coogan, Mirella Murray, Grainne Murphy, and Kathleen Boyle. The group performs all the traditional Irish traditions including instrumental, vocals, and step dancing all in one show. Madden, who plays the flutes and whistles, was named to the top 25 mot influential Irish Americans of the past quarter century. The group has one numerous awards for their performances. Click Here to get a preview of the group. Cherish the Ladies will be back in Minnesota this summer at The Irish Fair of Minnesota in Harriet Island. They will be performing there on August 8th and 9th. Tickets for this weekend's show are limited. They are $28 for adults, $25 for seniors, $18 for faculty/staff, and $10 for students/youth.

    Battlelegs

    Little Falls natives Kasey DeVine, Andrew Barnes, and Lance Radziej return to Great River Arts Center for the second year as Battlelegs. As part of the St. Patrick's Day celebration Battlelegs will be performing their Celtic Face-Melt Rock music. The trio combines an acoustic guitar, the cajon, and the accordion in the love of Celtic music. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the music starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door, or you can order them for will call.
