There might not be anymore Hannibal Lecter movies in the works, but there might be a weekly TV series.

NBC has bought a TV series based on the series of movies with the Lecter character, featured in such films as ‘Manhunter,’ ‘Hannibal,’ ‘Red Dragon,’ and ‘Hannibal Rising’ and, most famously, ‘The Silence of the Lambs.’ The series will be written and produced by ‘Heroes’ writer and ‘Pushing Daisies’ creator Bryan Fuller. Other details about the potential project haven’t been revealed, although pundits speculate it could be “a twisted version of ‘The Mentalist.’”

Since procedurals are really hot right now — every network seems to have a ‘Mentalist’ or a ‘Dexter’ or a ‘Castle’ or a ‘Criminal Minds’ — this could be an instantly popular series. NBC is so interested that they don’t even want to see a pilot. If they like the script it’s going to be a series.

Anthony Hopkins won’t be available for the series, so may we suggest the actor who first played Lecter in ‘Manhunter,’ Brian Cox?
