Zika virus

Initially, concerns surrounding the Zika virus were lower here than in southern states because the mosquito species carrying the virus were native to the Gulf states-- but that has changed. For the first time the virus has been detected in a species native to Minnesota.

Travel agents report some Minnesotans are rescheduling their winter trips to warm weather destinations because of concerns about the mosquito-borne Zika virus.

The first case of Zika virus has been confirmed in Minnesota for this year. The Minnesota Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed a case of the virus in an Anoka County woman in her 60s.
