Heavy rain from Monday's storms have prompted Benton County to declare a state of emergency. The move is in hopes of getting state funding to help repair several township roads that washed out due to the heavy rains.
The Benton County sheriff is asking boaters to be safe and courteous during this high water period. July 11th storms have dumped large amounts of water into lakes, rivers and streams.
High water is forcing more road closures in east central Minnesota. The Minnesota Department of Transportation says Highway 70 is now closed near the Rice Creek bridge, about four miles east of Highway 65 in Kanabec County.
Flooding in North Dakota was expected to enter record territory on Friday, with the Souris River expected to peak over the weekend, breaking a record set in 1881.

As state officials continue to monitor the flood status of the Mississippi and Sauk Rivers, Benton County residents can begin preparing for the expected flooding. Benton County is offering free sandbags to residents.
