Heavy rain from Monday's storms have prompted Benton County to declare a state of emergency. The move is in hopes of getting state funding to help repair several township roads that washed out due to the heavy rains.
High water is forcing more road closures in east central Minnesota. The Minnesota Department of Transportation says Highway 70 is now closed near the Rice Creek bridge, about four miles east of Highway 65 in Kanabec County.
The south has certainly had its unfair share of disaster this year. The worst tornado outbreak in April, now major flooding of the Mississippi. Check out photos from the flooding and please keep those folks in your prayers.
As state officials continue to monitor the flood status of the Mississippi and Sauk Rivers, Benton County residents can begin preparing for the expected flooding. Benton County is offering free sandbags to residents.
