The Country Music Hall of Famer made a stop at St. Cloud State University back in 1982 and I thought it would be fun to take a look back at that as we honor his memory and contribution to country music.
On Aug. 25, 1979, Charlie Daniels was undoubtedly doing plenty of celebrating. It was on this day 35 years ago that the singer earned his first No.1 hit with his single 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia.'
To say Charlie Daniels is a Bob Dylan fan is to say the famous country singer plays an OK fiddle. It's an understatement. Daniels was in Dylan's band to record three albums in the late '60s and early '70s, and has since appreciated his music, even if he didn't necessarily always know what the folk-rocker was talking about.

Charlie Daniels said he was ready to rock after his pacemaker implant, and he meant it. The country music icon announced the lineup for the annual Charlie Daniels Band & Friends Christmas 4 Kids benefit concert, and in addition to the Charlie Daniels Band, it includes Justin Moore and other favorite acts.
A pacemaker won't slow Charlie Daniels down. The Charlie Daniels Band frontman says his fiddling or movements on stage won't be compromised with the device implanted in his chest. He underwent the procedure last month after being hospitalized with pneumonia. He returns to the stage Friday night (April 12) in Verona, N.Y.
The last hour of voting during the finals of March Bandness was frenzied, to say the least. Thousands of fans of Alabama and the Charlie Daniels Band cast a ballot in the waning minutes. The boys from Fort Payne, Ala. were trailing until the end, when they surged ahead and took the title of Best Country Band of All Time.
