Cathedral Crusaders

Cathedral football is ready to go after what head coach Andrew Leintz calls a "robust" offseason with 10 to 11 practices throughout the summer, 7 of 7 tournaments and organized team activities. He says they had a good camp leading up to this week.

The Cathedral boys hockey team closed their season at Mariucci Arena today with a 3-2 win over Mankato West to capture the Class A consolation championship. Michael Spethmann scored the game-winning goal at the 15:44 mark to break the 2-all tie. Logan Neu got the assist.

I got to go to the Class A State Tournament quarterfinals for boy's hockey at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul last night. The Cathedral High School Crusaders lost 4-2 against St. Paul Academy.

The game can be heard on AM 1240 WJON and WJON.com beginning with the pregame show, which will feature seniors Jack Petroske and Tanner Schmit, along with coach Derrick Brown.

Wednesday's game can be heard on AM 1240 WJON with pregame coverage beginning 20 minutes before puck drop. Dave Overlund and Eric Johnson will have the call from downtown St. Paul.

The #4 seed Little Falls Flyers upset the #1 seed St. Cloud Apollo Eagles 4-1 last night in the Section 6A boys hockey semifinals at the MAC in St. Cloud. The #2 seed St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders upended the #3 seed Sartell Sabres 7-2-- setting up the Cathedral vs. Little Falls matchup for the right to go to state.

The top-4 seeds -- Apollo, Sartell, Cathedral, and Little Falls -- have advanced to the Section 6A boys hockey semifinals tonight at the MAC in St. Cloud. Tonight's winners will meet on Thursday night (2/25) back at the MAC to play for the right to advance to the state tournament.
