Join me Sunday, August 2nd at 11 am for the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight when we showcase Tracy Lawrence.  You can find us at 98.1 Minnesota’s New Country, online and on your mobile device.

Tracy Lawrence was born in Atlanta, Texas and spent most of his early life in Foreman, Arkansas.  He attended Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas and in 1990, he left Arkansas for Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a career in music.

It was in 1991 that Tracy burst onto the country music scene with his debut single Sticks and Stones.  His career and life almost ended before his career ever really took off.  He was shot four times in a hold up near the Quality Inn Hall of Fame in Nashville, just as his album Sticks and Stones was completed.  His wounds were not critical.

My favorite recording by Tracy is Time Marches On from the album of the same name.  It spent three weeks at #1 on the country chart in 1996.

Sister cries out from her baby bed, brother runs in feathers on his head, mamas in a room learning how to sew; daddy’s drinking beer listening to the radio.

Tracy has inspired a new generation of entertainers and fans.  Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan frequently pay tribute to the singer live in concert. On a personal note, Lawrence has been married three times and has two daughters.

Remember we take you back to country music’s roots every Sunday from 9 am to 1 pm.  We take your requests by calling 320-252-9897 or emailing me at dick@minnesotasnewcountry.com.
