Join me Sunday, September 27th at 11 am for the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight featuring the Oak Ridge Boys.

From 1977 to 1987, with a lineup of Duane Allen, William Golden, Richard Sterban and Joe Bonsall, the Oak Ridge Boys charted twenty-six top ten hits including fifteen number ones and sold millions of records.

For about 30 years prior to 1977, the Oak Ridge Boys had been a gospel group.  They began in 1945 as the Oak Ridge Quartet, a gospel group and then in 1962 they became the Oak Ridge Boys.  The lineup of the group changed many times since 1945.

In the year of 1977, Sharon Vaughn wrote Y'all Come Back Saloon, which was recorded by the Oak Ridge Boys and released in July of 1977.  It was the first single from the album of the same name.  The single peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot Singles Chart.

She played the tambourine with a silver jingle and she must have known the words to at least a million tunes, but the one most requested by the man she knew as cowboy. Was the late night benediction at the y'all come back saloon.

Country radio loved this song and it sparked a remarkable string of songs such as I'll Be True to You, American Made, Fancy Tree, Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight and many more.

During a performance on July 8, 2011 at the Opry, Little Jimmy Dickens announced that the Oak Ridge Boys will be the newest members of the Grand Ole Opry, effective August 6, 2011.

On March 26, 2015 the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum announced that the Oak Ridge Boys would be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame during the Medallion Ceremony in the fall of this year.
