Join me at 11 a.m. October 27th for the Country Classic Spotlight featuring the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.  The Country Classic Show kicks off at 9 a.m.

Originating during the 1960’s folk movement, the southern California based Nitty Gritty Dirt Band evolved into one of America’s first successful country rock bands.  More than 40 years after their first gig in May of 1966 in Orange Country, California, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band continues on.

Band members have changed frequently through the years and the band was originally called the Illegitimate Jug Band.  Jackson Browne was a member of the band for a few months before leaving to concentrate on his solo career as a singer/songwriter.

Then came the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band followed by the Dirt Band in 1976.   They returned to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band name in 1982.  Then released the album Let’s Go which yielded the success of Dance Little Jean, which was a Top Ten hit.

In 1984 the album Plain Dirt Fashion contained the band's first number one success, Long Hard Road.  There were two more number ones, Modern Day Romance in 1985 and Fishin' in the Dark in 1987.  The band continues to perform around the country.
