Join me Sunday June 14th at 11 am for the music and life of Sonny James.

Sonny James was born James Hugh Loden on May 1, 1929 in Hackleburg, Alabama. He was an active entertainer from 1953 to 1983, when he retired with his wife, Doris, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Sonny James holds the record of having the most consecutive number one hits in country music during the 1960's and 1970's.  Known as the "Southern Gentleman" for his congenial personality, his greatest success was singing ballads about the joys and trials of love.

In late 1956 he released Young Love, a single for which he would forever be remembered. It was written by Ric Cartey and Carole Joyner and it reached number one on Billboard's Hot Country Music Chart and stayed there for nine weeks in 1957.

He went on to a long and highly successful career.  In 1962 he became a member of the Grand Ole Opry.  He was a guest on Hee Haw  and made minor appearances in several Hollywood movies.

In 1971 he made a special music recording for the crew of Apollo 14, who later presented him with one of the small flags that they carried to the moon.
