Join me Sunday morning, March 13th for the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight for the life and music of Roger Miller.

Miller was born during The Great Depression on January 2, 1936.  He grew up in Erick, Oklahoma working the family farm, dreaming of a better life. Miller was drafted during the Korean War -- he was stationed at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, Georgia. That's where he met "Whispering" Bill Anderson. The two became life long friends.

Miller was signed by RCA Records which never worked out.  Around 1963, he signed a recording contract with Smash Records.  That's when things started to happen for Roger Miller.  "Dang Me" scored a number one hit position.  His most famous recording was, "King of the Road," a million-seller.  Then came "Chug-a-Lug" and "Kansas City Star" and many more.

In 1991, he learned he had cancer and passed away October 25, 1992.  Miller was married three times and fathered seven children.  A main street in Erick, Oklahoma, where Miller grew up was named Roger Miller Boulevard.

Join me Sunday March 13th at 11 am for the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight.  We get started at 9 am with the Country Classic Show at 98.1 FM Minnesota's New Country, online and on your mobile device.
