Join me at 11 a.m. for the 98 Country Classic Spotlight featuring pop-country group Dave and Sugar.  The Country Classic Show gets started at 9 a.m.

The pop country vocal group Dave and Sugar had a string of hit recordings in the 1970's beginning with Queen of the Silver Dollar.  The group was formed in 1975 by Dave Rowland and the original members included Vicki Hackeman and Jackie Frantz. The 'Sugar' lineup changed several times during the group's run of success.

Before Dave and Sugar was born Dave was a prominent member of Charley's Pride Road Show.

Queen of the Silver Dollar was the trio's first single, which peaked at #25 on Billboard Magazine's Country Singles Chart in early 1976.  The Door Is Always Open became their first number one hit in 1976.  The group had two more number one hits, Tear Time in 1978 and Golden Tears in 1979.  That song was the groups third and final #1 hit on the Billboard Magazine Hot Country Singles chart.  The song is about a woman who marries a rich man for his money, but realizes that money does not necessarily buy happiness.  The trio enjoyed several more Top Ten singles before beginning to fade in the early 1980's.
