Join me Sunday, May 31st, for a trip down memory lane as we feature the one and only country music singer and songwriter whose work spans more than 50 years, Loretta Lynn, at 11 am on the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight.

Loretta will be appearing Friday, May 29th and Saturday, May 30th at Grand Casino Mille Lacs in Onamia, Minnesota.  I saw her about twelve years ago at Grand Casino Mille Lacs where she put on a fabulous show and I expect the same this weekend.

She was born Loretta Webb on April 14, 1932 in Butcher Holler, Kentucky. Her signature song that she wrote, Coal Miner’s Daughter is still a big hit.  She wrote a book by the same name, then had her life story depicted in a movie in 1980 with Sissy Spacek as Loretta.  Sissy won an Academy Award for her performance.

In 1971 she began a professional partnership with Conway Twitty. They scored five consecutive number one hits between 1971 and 1975.  During her early days, she befriended singer Patsy Cline, who helped her navigate the world of country music.

Loretta married Oliver Mooney Lynn in January of 1948.  He passed away in August of 1996, leaving behind Loretta and six children.  She owns a ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, which is billed as the 7th largest attraction in Tennessee.

Hear more about Loretta Lynn this Sunday, May 31st, at 11 am.  The 98 Country Classic Show is heard every Sunday from 9am to 1 pm at 98.1 Minnesota's New Country, online and your mobile device.  As always we take your requests at 320-252-9897 or by email to dick@minnesotasnewcountry.com.
