Join me Sunday November 8th at 11 am for the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight when we feature the life and music of Leroy Van Dyke.

On October 4th of this year, Leroy Van Dyke turned 86 years old. He was born in Spring Fork, Missouri and is described as a country singer with a velvet voice.  He only had three top ten country hits.

Leroy worked as an auctioneer for a time and that’s when the song Auctioneer was born.  He co-wrote the song with Buddy Black and it peaked at number nine on the country chart in 1956.

Then came Walk on By which hit number one and stayed at that position for nineteen weeks in 1961.  In 1962 his third top ten hit was If a Woman Answers, Hang up the Phone, which scored a number three on the country chart.

Leroy graduated from the University of Missouri where he studied journalism and animal husbandry. He has been married to his wife, Gladys, for 35 years and he is also a 2001 inductee into the North American Country Music Association International Hall of Fame.

At age 86, Van Dyke continues to hit the road while keeping classic country music alive and kicking.
