On Sunday November 9th at 11 a.m. the Sunday Morning Country Country Classic Spotlight will feature Johnny Paycheck.  The Country Classic Show gets going at 9 a.m.

The first time people heard of Johnny Paycheck was in 1977 when Take This Job and Shove It was released.  It inspired one man wildcat strikes all over America.  The song was written by David Allen Coe and the song is about the bitterness of a man who has worked long and hard with no apparent reward.  The song is from the album of the same title.  The recording peaked at #1 on the country chart for two weeks, spending 18 weeks on the chart .  It was his only number one hit.

On the flip side Colorado Kool-Aid spent ten weeks on the same chart and peaked at number 50.  His other hits included She's All I Got, I'm The Only Hell Mama Ever Raised and many more.  '

His personal life was very troublesome.  He had drug problems and legal  problems and on December 19, 1985, he shot a man during a bar room confrontation in Hillsboro, Ohio.  In February of 1989 he was sent to prison and released two years later.

He became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in November of 1997.  Johnny passed away on February 19, 2003 at age 64.  He left behind his wife of 30 years, Sharon and one son.  His burial plot is located at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville, Tennessee.  His final resting place was purchased by fellow country legend George Jones.
