Join me Sunday morning to kick off 2015 for the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight as we feature John Conlee.

John's hottest streak came during 1983-1984 when he scored four consecutive number ones, Common Man, I'm Only in it for the Love, In My Eyes and As Long As I'm Rockin' With You.  His fans identified with his comforting voice and his songs about ordinary and everyday life.

John and George Barber wrote Rose Colored Glasses, which was released in April of 1978 from the album of the same name.  The song spent twenty weeks on the Hot Singles Chart peaking at number five.  Back Side of Thirty is a song written by Conlee that was released in February of 1979 as the third single from the album Rose Colored Glasses.  The song is about a working man whose dreams of family life and the American dream came undone after a caustic divorce.  The single stayed at number one for a single week and spent a total of eleven weeks on the Country Chart.

Domestic Life, a song written by J.D. martin and Gary Harrison and recorded by John, was released in 1987 from the album, American Faces.  It was a Top Ten hit peaking at #4 on Billboards Hot Country Singles Chart, it's one of my favorites.

John did not immediately take up a musical career, instead he became a licensed mortician and later a DJ at WLAC in Nashville, TN in 1971.  Conlee has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1981.
