Join me  April 5th, Easter Sunday,  at 11 am for the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight featuring Jessi Colter.

Both a singer and a songwriter, Jessi Colter seemed to be an unlikely participant in the country music outlaw movement.  She was profoundly influenced by her mother who was an ordained Pentecostal minister.

Jessi was discovered in Phoenix, Arizona by Duane Eddy, a rock musician.  In 1962 she married him and they settled in California.  After their marriage ended in 1968, she went back to Phoenix.  That's where she met Waylon Jennings, who became her second husband in 1969.

Jessi and Waylon moved to Nashville where they nearly divorced due to his addiction to drugs and other forms of substance abuse.  However, they remained married until Waylon's death in 2002.

I'm Not Lisa is a country song written and recorded by Jessi, which was released as a single in January of 1975.  This song describes the pain that comes with dating someone who has not gotten over a previous lover.  The woman in the song, Julie, laments the fact that her boyfriend keeps mentioning his previous girlfriend named ,Lisa.  The song became a Top Ten hit for her.

I'm not Lisa, my name is Julie, Lisa left you years ago.

Jessi has two children, a daughter named Jennifer from her first marriage and Waylon Albright "Shooter" Jennings with Waylon.

So whatever happened to Jessi Colter?  She still occasionally records and performs. At age 71 she's the proud mother of her son Shooter who is also a country star and mother to her daughter Jennifer.
