On Sunday, October 16th at 11 a.m., the spotlight shines bright on the living legend, George Strait.

We get started at 9 am with the Country Classic Show at 98.1 FM Minnesota’s New Country, online and on your mobile device.

George Strait's name has become synonymous with real country. He always wore a cowboy hat, western shirt and blue jeans on stage. He was born in Texas, May 18, 1952. After years of attempts at a recording contract, he finally signed a solo recording contract in 1981 with MCA Records.

George married his high school love, Norma Strait, in December of 1971. Personal tragedy struck in 1986 when Strait’s daughter, Jennifer, was killed in a car accident at age 13. Strait and his wife set up the Jennifer Lynn’s Foundation to honor her life, which raises money for children’s charities. Their son, George Jr., was born in 1981.

Strait has sold more than 100-million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling country music artist of all time. In 1992, he played the main character in the movie, “Pure Country.” In 2014, Strait went on his last tour called “The Cowboy Rides Away.”
