Join me Sunday March 22nd for the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight featuring Gene Watson.

Since Gene Watson entered the Top Ten in 1975 with my all time favorite Love in the Hot Afternoon, a sultry song of passion set in New Orleans, he has been one of country music's greatest voices and song stylists.

V. Matthews and Kent Westbury wrote Love on a Hot Afternoon and it was released in May 1975 from the album of the same name.  The song reached #3 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart.

From somewhere outside I hear a street vendor cry, 'Filet gumbo!' from my window I see him going down the street.

In the country music world he is rightly referred to as, 'The Singer's Singer' because his powerful voice and range allows him to sing some of the most challenging songs that come from his natural talent.

Gene recorded a succession of Top Ten hits that included Paper Rosie, Farewell Party and Fourteen Carat Mind.

Today Gene Watson has endured the ups and downs of the music business to become a country music icon.  He is still touring both at home and abroad and remains true country.  Gene quit drinking in 1980, quit smoking in 1990 and survived colon cancer in 2000.

Hear more of your favorite country classic hits every Sunday from 9 am to 1 pm.  Remember we take your requests at 320-252-9897 or email dick@minnesotasnewcountry.com.
