Join me Sunday July 19th at 11 am for the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight featuring Emmylou Harris.

EmmyLou is credited as a singer, songwriter and musician.  She has released many albums and singles over the course of her career and as of this year she has won 13 Grammy Awards.

Emmylou Harris was born on April 2, 1947 in Birmingham, Alabama.  In April of 2009 she became a grandmother, her daughter gave birth to a daughter named Prudence.

One of my favorite singles by Emmylou is Two More Bottles of Wine.  Delbert McClinton wrote this song and it was released in April of 1978 from the album, Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town.  The song peaked at #1 and stayed on the country chart for ten weeks.

The song was covered by Martina McBride on her 1995 album Wild Angels and also by Terri Clark on her 2012 album Classic.

Activism has been a big part of Emmylou's life.  In 1997 and 1998, she performed as part of Sarah McLachlan's Lilth Fair tour promoting feminism in music.  Since 1999, she has been organizing  an annual benefit tour called 'Concerts for a Landmine Free World.'  All proceeds from the tours support the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundations around the world.

Emmylou has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1992.  Most recently she teamed up with Rodney Crowell for an album called The Traveling Kind which was released on May 12, 2015.
