On Sunday January 10th at 11 am, join me for the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight featuring the music of country-pop artist Donna Fargo.  We get started at 9 am with the 98 Country Classic Show.  You can find us at 98.1 FM Minnesota’s New Country, online and on your mobile device

Donna Fargo was raised on her father’s North Carolina tobacco farm.  She was born Yvonne Vaughn the youngest of four children and after her college graduation she got a job teaching English in Los Angeles.  In LA she met Stan Silver, a record producer whom she married in 1969.  He taught her to play guitar, that’s when she started writing songs.

She wrote Happiest Girl in the U.S.A., which won a Grammy and became the CMA Single of the Year.  It's one of those songs everyone loves to sing along to.  It was also the first of thirty-eight singles to hit Billboards Country Chart.  Six of the singles went to number one.

Donna was stricken with M.S. (Multiple Sclerosis) in 1979.  She experienced illness but with medical treatment, she made it back to excellent health. She left recording in the early 90’s to pursue other careers outside of music.  She established a successful line of greeting cards and released several books.

Her latest is My Prayer for You.  Go to www.DonnaFargo.com for more information.

She was born on November 10, 1945 and is now 70 years old, I suspect she still is “the happiest girl in the whole U.S.A.”
