Join me Sunday April 19th for the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight as we feature Don Williams.  Don  was one of country music's most consistent hit makers, scoring at least one Top 5 single every year between 1974 and 1991.

Don was born in Floydada, Texas on May 27, 1939.  He married Joy Bucher on April 10, 1960 and they are the parents of two sons, Gary and Tim.

After seven years with the folk-pop group Pozo-Seco Singers he began his solo career in 1971.  He is known for his smooth bass baritone voice and became known as the "Gentle Giant" of country music.  With that voice he has amassed 17 #1 country hits.  He can play the guitar, piano, bass and of course, he can sing.

He has a long list of hit recordings, one that's frequently requested on the 98-1 Classic Show is I Believe in You, which was written by Roger Cook and Sam Hogin.  The song was released in August 1980 and it became his 11th # 1 country hit.

I don't believe in superstars organic food and foreign cars, I don't believe the price of gold, the certainty of growing old.

Don became a favorite of actor Burt Reynolds and he co-starred with Burt in W.W. & Dixie Dancekings. Don also appeared in Smokey and the Bandit II.

Don Williams will be appearing at Grand Casino Mill Lacs in Onamia on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 4 pm.
