On Sunday January 17th at 11 am, join me for the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight.  This week we're shining it on Charly McClain.  We get started at 9 am with the Country Classic Show at 98.1 FM Minnesota’s New Country, online and on your mobile device

Charlotte McClain became one of the stars of the urban cowboy era.  She was born on March 26, 1958 in Jackson, Tennessee and raised in Memphis.

She signed her first record contract in 1976 and within two years she had hit the top ten. In early 1981 Who’s Cheatin’ Who became her first number one.  Other hit recordings include Sleeping with the Radio On, Radio Heart and a duet with Mickey Gilley called Paradise Tonight.

Charly also had an acting career.  She appeared on the TV series Hart to Hart, Chips, Austin City Limits and The Solid Gold Show.  She was also featured in numerous commercials.

She married former One Life to Live star Wayne Massey in 1984. They had some success with a couple of duets.  Her achievements began to subside after 1986 and she hasn’t recorded a new album since 1989.  In fact, Charly has completely dropped out of the country music scene.

She turns 60 in March.  Charly, thanks for all those country classic hits we play on the 98.1 country classic showson Sundays.
