You are invited to join me Sunday November 30th at 11 am for the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight featuring Buck Owens.

Buck Owens wore many hats as a singer, songwriter, guitarist, radio DJ and television personality.  If you look at his recording success, he ruled the country music scene in the mid 1960's.  In 1962 he formed The Buckaroos, which had 15 number one songs.  They toured and recorded music through the 60's.

Buck is one of several musicians, along with Merle Haggard and Tommy Collins, credited with creating the 'Bakersfield Sound', which combines rock and classic country music.

I've Got a Tiger by the Tail, written by Buck and Harlan Howard and recorded by Buck Owens and the Buckaroos, was released in December of 1964.  That song became their  biggest hit on the Billboard Hot Country Chart where it peaked at number one in February 1965 and stayed there for five weeks.  The song became one of Owens signature songs and showcases the Bakersfield sound in the genre.

Tall Dark Stranger is a 1969 single written and recorded by Buck.  It was his twentieth number one on the country chart and spent a week at number one and a total of thirteen weeks on the charts.

Beginning in 1969, Owens co-hosted the TV series Hee-Haw with Roy Clark for fifteen years.

Buck died on March 25th, 2006 shortly after performing at his Crystal Palace Restaurant club and museum in Bakersfield, California.  His cause of death was from an apparent heart attack.

He was married four times, three ending in divorce and one in annulment.  His first wife was Bonnie Campbell, a country singer, and they married in 1948. He was the father of three sons.
