Join me Sunday, June 5th at the cabin, at the campsite or at home for the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight featuring Shelly West and David Frizzell.  We get started at 9 am with the Country Classic Show at 98.1 FM Minnesota’s New Country, online and on your mobile device.

Shelly West is the daughter of the legendary superstar Dottie West and her first husband Bill, a noted steel guitar player.  Shelly got her start at the young age of 17 when she toured with her mother's show.  Shelly fell in love with her mother's lead guitarist Allen Frizzell. They married and left the band in 1977.  Allen was the little brother of Lefty and David Frizzell.

David was looking for a duet partner and settled on Shelly West.  The two scored a string of duet hits, especially their number one smash hit, "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma," as well as "Texas State of Mind" and "I Just Came Here to Dance."  The duo's success continued through the mid 1980s, when they split up.  That was about the time Allen and Shelly divorced.

West made her solo debut in 1983 with "Jose Cuervo" which hit number one. "Flight 309 to Tennessee" made the top ten.  Shelly married for the second time in 1984.

West and David Frizzell have appeared a few times in Branson, Missouri.  Shelly's mother was involved in a major car accident in late August 1991 and she passed away September 4, 1991 from her injuries.

Shelly is semi-retired from the music business and doing well.  David Frizzell is still writing, producing, touring and performing.  Frizzell is one of those timeless and tireless entertainers.
