Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight Features Randy Travis

A shy north Carolinian Randy Trywick, we know him as Randy Travis, became known in 1986 in the country music circles.  His distinctive baritone twang endeared him to hard country loyalists; but, also to millions of fans beyond country's traditional boundaries.

Travis made some of the most memorable, high quality country music in the late 80's into the 90's.

A singer and songwriter of country and gospel music.  In 1985, Warner Brothers released the single "On the Other Hand," which peaked at number 67.  In 1986 it was re-released which became Travis first number one hit.

In the late 1980's he had a string of hits including, "No Place Like Home" and "Diggin' Up Bones." A song from his second Warner Brothers album titled Always and Forever was "Forever and Ever, Amen" launched the traditional country era.

Travis won a Grammy Award for "Best Male Country Vocal Performance" in 1988 and 1989.  He also won the AMC Award for "Best Country Newcomer" in 1986.
