ST. CLOUD - Distracted driving test and tough road conditions were just a few of the obstacles teens had to go through Saturday afternoon.

The teens were participating in a event held at Minnesota Highway and Research Center in St. Cloud.

Katherine Erickson and her mother Ann attended the event. Katherine says the hands-on education is why she though it was important to participate in the event.

"I thought it would be a good experience to be able to feel a skid and know how to correct it. Also I thought it would be good to learn basic driving etiquette and maybe learn how to do it better."

Outside of having their driving skills tested, they were also able to watch firefighters do a live extraction from a car, police perform a K9 pursuit and check out multiple first responder vehicles.

Ann says the experience her daughter recieved will help her be more prepared for driving on the road everyday.

"When you are in real life there is no opportunity to do it over, once you have crashed you've crashed. Here you get to go through it again."

The MN Highway Safety and Research Center is open year round and provide driving lessons for people of all ages.
