"Would you like straws or to save the sea turtles?" is one of the best quotes I have seen on Twitter recently. It is no surprise that human kind uses and improperly disposes of a lot of plastic products. One of which happens to be plastic straws. There seems to have been an uproar about banning plastic straws lately and Starbucks is jumping on board. They are working to ban plastic straws from their stores by 2020, which will in theory, eliminate more than 1 billion plastic straws a year. The company's announcement comes a week after it's home base of Seattle banned single-use plastic straws and utensils at all businesses that sell food or drinks in the city.

So what is the alternative to a straw? Other than dumping your Frappuccino down the front of your shirt. The coffee company came up with a new lid when they released special foamy cold crews earlier this summer, and those lids will now be available in 8,000 stores across the country. But it's still plastic. Really the best alternative would be for everyone to use a reusable coffee cup or drink tumbler, and when you do that now you sometimes get a discount! It's the little things that we do that will add up to less plastic waste in the world.

Also, the Starbucks in the East Side Target is open again! Woohoo!
