Part of my job here at 98 Country is selecting the new music that goes on the air. Sometimes artists just make it too easy to spot a bad song.

I get tons of songs across my desk every month from Nashville, locally and other places asking to be played. I hate saying no, but that's part of my job. We can't play what one person wants to hear, we have to play what the majority of the nearly 250,000 people that listen to us daily want to hear. We rely on research, chart positions, requests and several other factors to determine what makes it on the air - we want the best of the best right? Sometimes that makes my job very difficult.

Sometimes it is really easy to spot a hit and it just immediately gets played. Other times it isn't as easy and I sometimes take weeks researching a song with various people around the office, listeners, friends, family and others to see what their reaction is to it. If they don't like it, it doesn't go on. If they do, I wait another couple weeks and see what it does on the charts and in research before putting it on the air.

Other times a song comes across my desk that is pure garbage and doesn't deserve to be played in a pig barn. Those usually end up in the trash never to be heard from again. Once in a blue moon, there will be a song that is so bad, it is comical.

Take Three Second Rule from Lisa Gail Allred. Bless her heart, she thought she would make a music video and it would help the song or maybe even launch her career. I don't think a space shuttle booster rocket could launch her career with this song.

Check out the video to this song and you can thank me later for not making your ears bleed with it on the air!
