BENTON COUNTY -- The Benton County Sheriff's office has a new addition to its team from Slovakia.

A one-year-old black German Shepherd, police dog is its newest recruit. Sheriff Troy Heck says his Slovakian name is Hoky [Hockey] and they are taking suggestions for his new Minnesota name.

If you would like to make a name suggestion visit the Benton County Sheriff's Facebook page by clicking here. Heck says the dog's new name will be announced by mid-January.

The new police dog will begin a four-month training program with his handler at the end of January.

The new police dog also comes from the same breeder as the previous police dog, Ben. Ben had knee surgery nearly two-months ago and is nearing the end of his recovery.

The Benton County Sheriff's K-9 program is funded by donations from the community and area businesses.
