SAUK RAPIDS -- St. Cloud Technical and Community College is partnering with Habitat for Humanity to give students a hands on learning experience.

Fifteen students in the college's architectural construction class created designs for the non-profit's next house. Of all 15 blueprints, student Patrick Michael's was picked as the best plan.

"Honestly is was because it was simple. I did it as simple as possible and that's what they [Habitat for Humanity] were looking for."

Michael says other designs were more elaborate than his but for this project simplicity would help them finish the house in their time frame.

Habitat for Humanity Construction Assistant and SCTCC student, Ross Potts says the most challenging part of designing the home was incorporating each room in the space they were given.

"There's roughly 1000 square feet on each level. There's a laundry room, kitchen, living room, two bathrooms and six bedrooms so it's a lot of rooms in a small house."

The class and the habitat for humanity crews will be building the home this week. The home will be on North Benton Drive in Sauk Rapids.
