SARTELL -- A Sartell woman is alive after a report that she jumped from the Sartell Bridge this (Thursday) afternoon.

Police were called to the scene at about 3:40 p.m. after witnesses say the 63-year-old woman parked her car on the bridge, got out, climbed over the railing and jumped into the Mississippi River.

The woman was spotted in the river floating on her back and calling for help. An officer directed her to grab onto a rock and wait for a rescue boat.

Police say the woman was able to make it to the rock, where she rested for a short time and then began swimming toward the Sauk Rapids side of the river.

The woman reached shore just before 4:00 p.m. and clung to the riverbank until rescuers could pull her to safety.

She was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
