The Royals beat the Twins 2-1 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City Tuesday night. Minnesota falls to 58-73 on the season with the loss.

Joe Mauer gave the Twins a 1-0 lead in the top of the seventh inning with a base hit that scored Brian Dozier, but the Twins all star closer Glen Perkins could not hold the lead.

Alcides Escobar greeted Perkins with a base hit, followed by an Alex Gordon walk-off home run that tagged Perkins with his first loss of the season and fifth blown save.

Ricky Nolasco had a strong start for Minnesota, lasting seven innings while allowing just three hits and one walk with six strikeouts. He outdueled Danny Duffy, who allowed one run on four hits and two walks in 6.2 innings pitched.

The Twins will take on the Royals again Wednesday night in Kansas City. Former Twin Liam Hendriks will get the start against Minnesota’s Phil Hughes. First pitch on WJON is scheduled for 7:10.
