Mike Pelfrey put together his best start to date as a member of the Twins as Minnesota topped Cleveland 4-2 Sunday afternoon at Progressive Field. Pelfrey struck out seven Indian batters, equalling his total from his first five starts of the season combined.

Third baseman Trevor Plouffe gave the Twins an early 2-0 lead with a two-run bomb off of Cleveland starter Corey Kluber. Plouffe's fourth longball of the season also plated Chris Parmelee.

The Indians got a run back in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Mark Reynolds, but the Twins answered back with another pair of runs, one in the top of the sixth and one in the seventh.

Justin Morneau knocked in a run in the top of the sixth with a base hit, then Joe Mauer doubled home a run in the top of the seventh.

Carlos Santana took Twins closer Glen Perkins deep in the top of the ninth inning to cut the Minnesota lead to 4-2, but Perkins clamped down and earned the save.

The Twins took one of three games in Cleveland after winning one of three in Detroit in their previous series. Minnesota closes out their ten game road swing with four games at Boston Monday through Thursday (WJON).
