WAITE PARK  - There's a phone scam circulating in Central Minnesota that's targeting area businesses.

Waite Park Police say some businesses are receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be from Xcel Energy. The caller tells them their business owes them money and if they don't pay it immediately, their power will be shut off.

Waite Park Community Service Officer Alicia Mages says you shouldn't give financial information over the phone. If you have questions with your power company, you should reach out to them directly from the phone number on your bill.

Along with Waite Park: there have also been similar business scams reported in the Sartell-Sauk Rapids area recently.
