If you recently upgraded to iOS 9, you should take a look at this.

According to an article from KARE11 a new feature of the iOS 9 upgrade could cost you some big money if you don't shut it off.  You should at least be aware of it so you can control it.

The feature is called Wi-Fi Assist and basically it eats up your data when you have a weak Wi-Fi signal.  Obviously if you have a limited data plan and you go over, it could cost you a lot of extra money.

Wi-Fi Assist was automatically turned on when the upgrade took place and it's easy to shut it off :

  • Go to Settings
  • Click on Cellular
  • You'll find Wi-Fi Assist at the bottom, toggle over to turn off the feature
