Last year was my first year attending the Minnesota State Fair. There was a lot of hype surrounding the food. I have to say it was as crazy and amazing as I thought it would be.

The first thing that I tried at the state fair last year was french fries. Things got better from there. I had cheese curds, which I have to say were the best I've ever had in my life, chicken on a stick, corn and fried cookie dough balls.

The cookie dough balls were so weird because they were huge globs of cookie dough put in some kind of batter, deep fried, sprinkled with sugar and put on a stick. My brother had deep fried alligator on a stick.

How do people come up with these ideas? There's a new food trend that we'll likely see at our own state fair soon called deep fried Slim-Fast bars. It's kind of an oxymoron that started at the San Diego County Fair.

A regular Slim-Fast bar will run you about 200 calories. After it's breaded and deep fried the bar is about 700 calories. The guy who invented this new deep fried fair snack is "Chicken" Charlie Boghosian. He also invented the deep fried Oreo. He says this new creation is even better tasting than the chocolate cookie snack.

I'm just waiting for the deep fried Toaster Strudel. If you want to try to deep fry your own candy bars at home check out this video. I wouldn't make a habit of it though...
