My mom was stranded at Walmart two days ago. Her car battery stalled because of the cold weather and she needed someone to come and jump her car. She forgot her cell phone at home, so she had to ask a stranger to borrow their phone. It's safe to say she was having a really bad day. Well, things just kept getting a little bit worse for her.

She tried calling my dad--he wasn't answering his phone. She called my brother, sister and grandma--they didn't answer the phone. At this point she tried calling me...and, you guessed it, I didn't answer my phone either. I was busy taking a nap. My phone started buzzing so I reached my hand over to my night stand, picked it up and saw a number I didn't recognize. I decided to to turn my phone on silent because I really needed some sleep.

I woke up and saw that I had three more missed calls from this strange number and a few voice mails. Again, I ignored the calls and decided I'd check the voicemail after dinner because I get butt dialed a lot. When I eventually got around to listening to my missed calls, I felt horrible. My mom left three voice mails telling me that her car was stalled and she needed a jump. I called her house and by this time she had made it home. She proceeded to tell me about this awesome kid from Walmart that had helped her jump her car. The way she described him, it sounded like she had wanted to adopt him to be her kid.

I was already feeling super guilty and she kept rubbing in how awesome this stranger was and how disappointed she was in me that I didn't answer my phone. At one point she even told me that she was going to buy this stranger some pizza certificates and let his boss know how grateful she was that he was able to help her when no one in her family could.

She kept saying that if only I had answered my phone, she wouldn't have had to go through such trouble. Then, it occurred to me that it was actually her fault. She left her cell phone at home and was calling me from a number that I didn't recognize. If she would have had her phone on her, I would have answered it.

I can't be the only person who doesn't answer their phone when they are called by a strange number!
