About a month ago I went to the doctor to get a few moles removed for cosmetic reasons. My wedding is coming up in November and I thought it was finally the right time to get a few removed from my arms, neck and face.

I really wasn't expecting the doctor to find a suspect mole that he felt needed to be cut off and sent in for a biopsy. The mole that the doctor found was actually on the back of my leg--a mole I didn't even realize I had.

I started to get a little worried because I used to go to a tanning bed everyday in high school. I was like a typical teenager who wanted a golden tan and really didn't think about the negative repercussions of my choices.

My doctor appointment happened about a month ago and I didn't hear anything back from the doctor. I thought for sure that meant everything came back squeaky clean from the lab--boy, was I wrong!

I got a phone call yesterday from the clinic. They told me that my biopsy came back from the lab and it shows the presence of cancer cells in my mole. Now, I'm busy making appointments to try to figure out what the next steps are and what all needs to be done.

It's always a scary thing whenever your health is called into question. The best case scenario is that I just get the mole completely cut out and that's the end of it. I'm hoping for the best and trying to stay positive.

Please, get your moles checked out. Luckily, I caught this early. Make sure you're wearing sunblock this summer and seriously not using tanning beds. They are absolutely dangerous--I would know!
