Yesterday I attended my first Twins home opener. The day couldn't have been more perfect.

The sun was shining, the breeze felt wonderful, the air smelled of hot dogs and mini doughnuts, the entertainment was really neat. Even if the Twins had won yesterday, I don't think it could have been a more perfect day for a ball game.

I've been to Target Field a few times in the past, but I have never experienced an atmosphere quite like the one I experienced yesterday. I think it had something to do with starting on a clean slate, and embarking on a new beginning with thousands of strangers.

Yesterday's events included a special performance from internet sensation Shawn Mendes. His first album was released today.

My favorite part was when Jerry Driscoll, retired Air Force First Lieutenant, raised the American Flag. It was neat because Driscoll served 24 years of active duty in the air Force, which included over one-hundred missions and he spent seven years as a P.O.W. in Vietnam. It brought tears to my eyes.

The National Anthem was performed by local singer Greta Oglesby. During her performance a pair of F-16s from the Duluth-based 148th Fighter Wing of the Minnesota Air National Guard flew over the field. There were also two Eagles, Pi and Max, on home plate from the Raptor Center. The entire scene was planned to perfection.

Kevin Garnett from the Timberwolves threw the ceremonial first pitch. The crowd went wild with applause. He was joined on the field by the  Final Four's Most Outstanding Player,Tyus Jones, a Duke basketball player from Apple Valley.

Twins fans were excited when Torii Hunter took the field during the starting lineup. There was a short video that played on the jumbo screen from the last time he was a Twin. There were a few die hard fans who teared up a little bit. It was a pretty cool experience.

The game started, the food was awesome and the day was beautiful! The Twins lost the game, but it didn't matter to me a whole lot. I had a blast yesterday and the loss was just a small detail.
