My Connection To Wizard of Oz–Movie Turns 76 Today

Wizard Of Oz was released on this day back in 1939. The movie starred Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale.

Judy Garland is the stage name of Frances Ethel Gumm who was born in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

As my family legend has it, my great grandpa, Donald Dahl's, mother babysat Garland when she was a very young child living in Grand Rapids. My grandma used to tell me stories about what her dad told her about the Wizard of Oz star.

There's even a museum in in Grand Rapids that's dedicated to housing all things related to Garland's success. I've never been there but it's on my bucket list. A pair of her ruby red slippers made famous from the film went missing a few years ago. They are offering a reward for anyone with information on the missing shoes.

In honor of my connection to Garland and the film's birthday, I'm planning on watching the Wizard of Oz tonight.
