My mother-in-law Anne Lichty is a huge Prince fan. She was absolutely devastated by the news of his passing yesterday. Like many Minnesotans, she feels the loss even more than the rest of the nation because he was one of our own.

My fiance Dave has told me stories about how he and his mom would go to parties at Prince's house. I didn't believe it at first until I heard it from her myself. I guess Prince was notorious for throwing parties at his home that he'd open to the public. Dave and Anne attended more than one of Prince's parties.

It's always hard to lose a pop icon, but it's even harder to lose someone that was connected to our community and put it on the map. Prince was a true Minnesotan to the end and didn't forget his roots. He passed away at his home in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

My mother-in-law and her friend were both out at Prince's home last night and at First-Avenue where he got his start on stage. Here are some of the photos she sent me from yesterday, the day of his death. RIP Prince.
