Minnesota Over 100 Traffic Deaths so Far in 2016

ST. PAUL -- Minnesota already has surpassed 100 traffic deaths in the first four months of 2016.

Officials are concerned that the state may be on track to eclipse the 411 traffic fatalities recorded in 2015.

Minnesota Department of Public Safety officials say drunken driving is the biggest factor in fatal crashes. But the second leading behavior is failure to wear a seat belt.

Public Safety spokesman Bruce Gordon says people are "taking too many risks" when they drive.

2015 marked the first time in five years that road fatalities in Minnesota passed the 400 mark.

Of the 104 fatal crashes so far in 2016, six were motorcyclists and 12 were pedestrians.
