Minnesota Boy Remembers Lost NHL Teams as Wild Season Starts
As a kid growing up in Fridley during the 70's I had a set of NHL team banners that hung around my bedroom (that I shared with my little brother Rolf) featuring many teams that no longer exist. Some evaporated, some switched names and cities. Golden Seals? Rockies? Whalers? Nordiques? North Stars?
My hockey heart was ripped out when the North Stars were uprooted and planted in Dallas. (At least they could have called them the Lone Stars.) To be honest, it's taken me a while to slowly climb aboard the Wild wagon after that. Childhood emotions run deep.
