A Melrose native will be competing for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Track and Field team tonight (Monday).

Amanda (Thieschafer) Smock is in first place in the triple jump after the preliminary round on Saturday.  Her leap of 45-feet, 3 1/2-inches leads of field of 12 competitors in Eugene, Oregon.

The finals are at 7:45 p.m. tonight (Monday) our time.

After graduating from Melrose, Thieschafer-Smock attended North Dakota State University where she won three NCAA Division II titles.
