Janelle Johnson is our June Veteran of the Month! Johnson was nominated by her daughter Elizabeth, saying, "My mother isn't just a veteran, she's an alarm clock, a cook, a counselor, a teacher, a maid, a nurse, a quilter, a handyman and my best friend."

Johnson served in the Minnesota National Guard for about 17 years. She was deployed to Iraq in 2005 for 22 months leaving behind her husband and two daughters at the time. Johnson was part of the first BCT 34th Infantry Red Bull Brigade Combat Team.

Johnson said she joined the National Guard as a junior in high school, "It always felt like something I wanted to do." She grew up living next to Camp Ripley so it seemed like a natural fit.

During her time on deployment, Johnson was able to make two trips home and see Elizabeth off to her first day of Kindergarten.

Johnson has sacrificed so much for her country. Thank you, Janelle Johnson, for being a hero to our country!
