Kelly Clarkson Tied the Knot Without Family There, But That’s Okay
When Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock married at Tennessee’s beautiful Blackberry Farms on Oct. 20, it was an intimate occasion — very intimate. The couple said ‘I do’ without extended family present, preferring to celebrate solo (though Blackstock’s two kids were in attendance). But according to the mother of the bride, there are no hard feelings about the couple’s choice.
We really have to hand it to Clarkson’s mom, Jeanne Taylor. She’s not the typical high-strung, stressed out, over-the-top doting mother of the bride. In fact, she seems cool as a cucumber, despite the fact that she wasn’t able to be with her daughter while she walked down the aisle.
It came down to one thing: What was best for Clarkson. “She said they were just so overwhelmed with the tour and they just decided to elope,” the star’s mother reveals. “But she didn’t want to hurt our feelings. She has had a lot on her plate and I’ve seen her schedule for the next month and Christmas.”
Mama knows best, and Taylor knew that what her daughter needed was an intimate, non-stressful wedding. She adds, “We’re happy for her and she’s so happy. She was so afraid we might be upset. But we were fine with it … I had known that she was under a lot of stress. And we just wanted her to be happy and not stressed out. I think the biggest thing for us to do was to allow her to do what she wanted to do.”
Plus, the family of the lovebirds (including stepmother of the groom, Reba McEntire) will get front row seats to a viewing of the wedding. Clarkson and Blackstock were smart to have a videographer at their wedding who captured the monumental occasion, so everyone who wasn’t there can still experience it.
“She made a [wedding] video and we’ll get to see all of it,” Clarkson’s mom explains. “She said she cried through the whole thing anyway. She’s really emotional like that. She’s now glad she didn’t do it in front of a lot of people because then she’d be embarrassed.”
Although the couple tied the knot without their families around, they have a sweet memory of a stress-free wedding, and that’s more than a lot of newlyweds can say! What’s really important is the marriage, and it sounds like it’s starting off just the way they wanted — blissful and relaxed. What mother wouldn’t want that for her daughter?
