The USDA is alerting consumers that Jennie-O is recalling more than 160,000 pounds of ground turkey products amid fears of salmonella contamination.

The potentially contaminated turkey was shipped to store in Minnesota and across the nation. Ground turkey that has been recalled will have the marking 'EST. P-579' inside the USDA mark of inspection or on the side of the packaging, with use by dates of 11/12/18 or 11/13/18.

The following instructions from Jennie-O will help to determine if ground turkey you have on hand is included in this recall:

Step 1: Verify that your product is one of the listed varieties.

Step 2: Check the lower left corner of the front of the package or the side of the tray and verify the establishment number is P579. If the establishment is not P579 the product is not part of the recall and is safe to consume.

Step 3: Turn the product on its side. The production code information is on the side of the sleeve.

Step 4: You can either return it to the store where purchased for an exchange or contact Jennie-O's consumer engagement team online HERE, or at 800-621-3505, this Saturday and Sunday 9a-5p CT, or Monday through Friday 8a-4p CT, with the exception of December 25, when their offices will be closed.

The USDA says the following products are subject to recall:

  • 3-lb. packages of “Jennie-O GROUND TURKEY 93% LEAN | 7% FAT” with “Use or freeze by” dates of 11/12/18 and 11/13/18 on the side of the trays.
  • 1-lb. packages of “Jennie-O GROUND TURKEY 93% LEAN | 7% FAT” with “Use or freeze by” dates of 11/12/18 on the side of the trays.
  • 1-lb. packages of “Jennie-O TACO SEASONED GROUND TURKEY” with “Use or freeze by” dates of 11/12/18 on the side of the trays.
  • 1-lb. packages of “Jennie-O ITALIAN SEASONED GROUND TURKEY” with “Use or freeze by” dates of 11/12/18 on the side of the trays.
  • 3-lb. packages of “Jennie-O Ground Turkey 85% LEAN | 15% FAT” with a “Use or freeze by” date of 11/13/18 on the side of the trays.
  • 2.5-lb. packages of “Jennie-O Ground Turkey 93% LEAN | 7% FAT” with a “Use or freeze by” date of 11/13/18 on the side of the trays.
  • 3-lb. packages of “STATER BROS. 85% LEAN | 15% FAT ALL NATURAL Ground Turkey” with a “Use or freeze by” date of 11/12/18 on the side of the trays.
